Tooth Extractions
At Kluth-Richardson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we will do everything we can to save your tooth despite decay, injury, or infection. However, there are times when a tooth cannot be saved and it is necessary to extract your tooth to restore your dental health. We will then work with you for the best options for the replacement of your missing tooth. Our office in Noblesville, Indiana offers same-day emergency appointments, as scheduling permits, to give you the urgent care you need right away.
Common Reasons for Tooth Extractions:
- Crowding—If your jaw is too small for your teeth, it may be necessary to remove teeth.
- Orthodontic Treatment—It may be necessary to remove teeth to assist in orthodontic treatment to allow the remaining teeth to shift more easily and into the correct alignment.
- Infection and Decay—At times, a tooth may have so much decay or infection that it puts the surrounding teeth and jaw at risk of decay or spread of infection. To ensure continued dental health, removal may be necessary. Replacement with a bridge or an implant will restore not only your dental function, but also improve the aesthetics of your smile.
- Wisdom Teeth—Wisdom teeth are the last to arrive, usually in the late teens or early twenties. There is often insufficient room in the mouth for these teeth and can lead to a variety of dental issues. Wisdom teeth are often pulled proactively to avoid these issues.
What should I expect during an extraction?
The team at Kluth-Richardson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry may perform one of two types of extractions: Simple Extraction or Surgical Extraction. We will determine the type of extraction you need by taking digital x-rays beforehand. Regardless of the type of extraction, our number one goal is patient comfort. At Kluth-Richardson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer several types of sedation to allow you to sit back, relax, and be comfortable during your procedure.
Before removal of the tooth, the area will be numbed with anesthesia. The tooth will be loosened from the jaw bone and tissue, then gently removed (you may feel some slight pressure as the tooth comes out of the socket). Sutures may be necessary after the removal of the tooth. The most important part of tooth removal is the aftercare. Whether you had a simple or surgical extraction carefully following the expert advice of the staff at Kluth-Richardson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry will allow for optimum healing.
After having a tooth removed you my notice changes in your jaw. Adjacent teeth may shift, causing problems with chewing or with your overall ability to function. If you want to prevent these complications, at Kluth-Richardson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry may recommend that you replace the space with a dental bridge or dental implant.
