No Hassle Sedation
Did you know that one in three Americans suffers from dental anxiety? Sedation dentistry offers those with strong dental phobias or anxiety the opportunity to secure the dental care they need while calming the fear that sometimes even a routine cleaning can cause. In addition, sedation can help restless patients stay still and calm for procedures that could last an extended period. At Kluth-Richardson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry we are dedicated to maximizing your comfort and eliminating your worries so you can get the treatment you need without any hassle. Our practice offers several different types of sedation to allow you sit back, relax and be comfortable at your next visit.
What types of sedation are available?
- Nitrous Oxide Dental Sedation—Many patients only need minimal sedation. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is the most commonly used dental sedative. It comes in the form of a gas that you inhale through a nasal mask before your procedure. It reduces your anxiety rather than putting you to sleep. Once the mask has been removed at the end of your visit, the effects will wear off within minutes. You should be able to continue the rest of your day as normal.
- Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry—Oral sedatives come in the form of pills or liquids. If this method of sedation is needed, you will take the medication at a set time before your appointment so that you will be comfortable once the treatment begins. Like nitrous oxide, oral sedatives make you less nervous about your dental work, while allowing you stay awake. However, you may not remember much of what happened during the visit afterward.
What is the Consultation Process?
During your initial consultation, the specialists at Kluth-Richardson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry will inquire about your medical history and current medications to determine if you are a candidate for the sedation dentistry options available.
